İMO - Chamber of Civil Engineers
Founded in 1954, it is a professional organization functioning under the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), and operates as a public institution. Representing the civil engineering profession across Turkey, the Chamber of Civil Engineers (İMO) aims to ensure the practice of the profession in accordance with ethical, technical, and scientific standards, while safeguarding the rights and responsibilities of its members.
The primary goal of İMO is to ensure that the civil engineering profession serves the public interest and is conducted with a focus on public safety. In this regard, the chamber regularly organizes professional training, seminars, certification programs, technical panels, and publications to enhance the continuous professional development of engineers.
With a wide organizational network of branches and representative offices across Turkey, İMO plays an active role in licensing, documentation, and project approval processes for civil engineers working in areas such as design, structural inspection, geotechnical studies, transportation, and hydraulic structures.
İMO also engages in public awareness activities on critical issues such as structural safety in disaster-prone areas, urbanization policies, climate change, and sustainable infrastructure. It advocates for public interest based on scientific data.
İMO is not only a platform for professional solidarity but also a strong institution that upholds the social responsibility of engineering.
ÇMO - Chamber of Environmental Engineers
Founded in 1992, the Chamber of Environmental Engineers (ÇMO) is a professional organization functioning under the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), recognized as a public institution. Representing the discipline of environmental engineering, ÇMO supports the advancement of the profession and ensures that engineering services are carried out in line with ethical, technical, and scientific standards.
The chamber’s primary mission is to develop the environmental engineering profession for the benefit of society, in harmony with nature, and based on the principles of sustainability. In this context, while protecting the professional rights of environmental engineers, ÇMO also plays an active role in shaping public environmental policies. Key areas of responsibility include the conservation of natural resources, preservation of ecosystem balance, prevention of environmental damage, and raising awareness about the climate crisis.
ÇMO provides technical training programs, licensing and certification processes, professional development seminars, and technical publications for environmental engineers specialized in water and wastewater treatment, air pollution control, solid and hazardous waste management, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and environmental management in energy and industrial sectors. It also fosters professional knowledge exchange through national congresses, workshops, and panels.
With its nationwide branches and representatives, the chamber supervises engineering services to ensure public safety. It also prepares scientifically grounded reports on environmental issues, delivers expert opinions, and undertakes legal initiatives when necessary. On matters such as climate change, environmental justice, ecological degradation, urban transformation, and energy policies, ÇMO informs the public and proposes engineering-based solutions to decision-makers.
The Chamber of Environmental Engineers is not merely a professional body—it is an institution that defends the right to a healthy environment, promotes quality of life and sustainable development, and operates with a forward-looking, science-based approach.
