Riyadh Airport Infrastructure Project Work

Within the scope of the project, apron projects, taxiway designs, detailed engineering designs, 3D BIM modeling and drinking water, sewage and stormwater infrastructure systems for the VIP Terminal have been successfully completed in order to increase the reliability and efficiency of airport operations.

Project Scope and Technical Details

1. Apron and Taxiway Projects

The apron and taxiway projects that will serve the VIP Terminal and maintenance hangars at Riyadh Airport have been designed using concrete coatings with a high load-bearing capacity. During the design process, full compliance with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) standards was achieved, and the necessary geometric arrangements were made for safe maneuvering and parking areas of aircraft. In the apron designs, ground-structure interactions were modeled using finite element analysis (FEA), taking into account the loads that heavy cargo aircraft (for example, Boeing 747 or Airbus A380) will create. On the taxiways, slope analyses and material selection have been carried out meticulously for optimal drainage and long-lasting coating performance.

2. Detailed Designs and 3D BIM Modeling

One of the most critical elements of the project is the modeling of all infrastructure components in a 3D environment using BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology. Dotasal Proje Mühendislik has carried out detailed designs of aprons, taxiways and infrastructure systems with high precision by working in an integrated manner. BIM modeling has increased coordination between project stakeholders, prevented possible conflicts before field applications, and saved time and cost in Deconstruction processes. In addition, the LOD 400 (Level of Development) level has been reached in the models, so that detailed manufacturing drawings and material lists (BOQ) have been obtained directly from the BIM environment during the application phase.

3. VIP Terminal Infrastructure Systems

The drinking water, sewage and stormwater infrastructure systems designed for the VIP Terminal have been developed taking into account the climatic conditions of the region and the continuity requirements of airport operations:

  • Drinking Water System: Pipelines and pumping systems have been designed in accordance with AWWA (American Water Works Association) standards to meet the high standard water needs of the terminal. Corrosion resistant materials were used to protect the water quality and flow analyses were carried out with hydraulic modeling in the system.< / li>
  • Sewer System: A sewer network supported by hydraulic analyses has been designed for the safe and environmentally friendly discharge of wastewater. The design of the system was carried out in accordance with EN 752 standards and integration into the waste water treatment plant was provided.< / li>
  • Stormwater Drainage System: Detailed hydraulic modeling has been performed to manage the surface flows that may be caused by sudden rains in the Riyadh region. The design of the system has been optimized to prevent the formation of deposits around the terminal, and sustainable drainage solutions (for example, permeable coatings) have been integrated.< / li>
